We are a successful and growing company seeking qualified candidates for our counsel position in our Woodbury, NY location. Legal 1031 Exchange Services, LLC provides Qualified Intermediary services for IRC §1031 tax deferred exchanges, more commonly “1031 exchanges or like-kind exchanges.” A Qualified Intermediary is an independent third party to a real estate transaction whose function is to structure it as a tax deferred exchange, as well as to act as the independent escrow agent for the sale proceeds.

Description:
We are seeking a candidate for a counsel position to grow within our in-house legal department (1-3 years’ experience). Prior experience with real estate transactions, 1031 exchanges, or title services is a plus. The candidate will report to our Melville, NY office.
Responsibilities:
- Supports the General Counsel and the Legal 1031 team in complex transactions including reverse and improvement exchanges.
- Prepares, negotiates, and reviews agreements with clients and other third parties
- Reviews transactions and oversees proper execution of documents and collection of outstanding documents.
- Assess and manage risk with respect to business operations.
- Provides strategic counsel to business units and Executives regarding, legal, compliance, and operational matters.
- Develop a proficiency in 1031 rules and the ability to discuss tax and real estate concepts with clients and their advisors.
- Once fully trained, the attorney will be responsible for presiding over complex 1031 exchanges including reverse and improvement exchanges.
- Research and analyze federal and state legal authority regarding IRC 1031, real estate transactions, real estate taxation, and related issues.
- Other duties, research projects, and special projects as directed.
Qualifications:
- Employment history demonstrating strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail are a must.
- Professional demeanor and excellent client relation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independent in starting daily tasks and prioritizing tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
- Experience with tax and real estate concepts preferred.
- A demonstrated interest in real estate or tax law is a plus.
- Strong Writing Skills – if interviewed in person, must submit two short samples.
Experience:
Attorney or Law Firm Experience (1-3 years)
- Real Estate: 1 year+ (Preferred)
- Associate or bachelor’s degree (Required)
- JD (Required)
- We will consider law graduates pending admission to a bar or those finishing up law school
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
